Supporting Moms in Their Pregnancy Journey: Why the Pregnancy Power Hour Matters

Pregnancy is an exciting, life-changing experience, but let’s be real—it’s also filled with uncertainty. Many expecting moms don’t even know what they need, what to ask, or how to prepare beyond setting up a nursery. That’s exactly why pregnancy wellness and postpartum support are so important.
During a recent conversation with my amazing Capstone (doctorate of occupational therapy!!) student, Bobbi-Jo, we discussed why moms need more than just the generic pregnancy tips from doctors offices, Dr. Google, or even mom groups on social media (although those groups can be super supportive!). They need real, practical guidance to prepare their bodies, minds, and daily lives for what’s ahead. That’s what the Pregnancy Power Hour workshop is all about—offering expert-led, real-talk advice on the things many moms don’t even realize they should be thinking about.
What We Cover in the Pregnancy Power Hour
We designed this pregnancy support workshop to help expecting moms feel more prepared, confident, and empowered. The workshop focuses on three key areas that can make a big difference in pregnancy wellness, labor preparation, and postpartum recovery:
Pelvic Floor Myths & Must-Knows: The pelvic floor plays a crucial role during pregnancy, labor, and postpartum recovery, yet most women don’t learn about it until they’re experiencing issues like discomfort, leakage, or core weakness. We’ll break down pelvic floor health, debunk common myths, and guide you through a simple, effective exercise to build awareness and strength for a smoother recovery after birth (and years down the road).
Mental Health & Postpartum Planning: Pregnancy and postpartum mental health isn’t talked about enough, and many moms don’t realize how important it is to prepare emotionally for the transition into motherhood. We’ll discuss the difference between baby blues vs. postpartum depression (PPD) and walk through an activity to help moms feel ready for the emotional ups and downs of the fourth trimester.
Self-Care Beyond Baby Prep: Most pregnancy prep lists focus on getting ready for the baby—setting up the crib, buying clothes, and choosing the best gear—but what about preparing for you? In this section, we’ll focus on self-care during pregnancy with a customizable hospital bag checklist to make sure you pack the essentials for labor, delivery, and recovery. Plus, we’ll share additional tips to help you feel supported and cared for in those first postpartum weeks.

Many pregnancy classes focus on childbirth itself but leave out the things that make the biggest impact on a new mom’s physical recovery, mental wellness, and overall confidence.
