Self Love

Happy Valentine's Day! In honor of love day, I thought it would be a great time to mention self love and the importance of embracing your own story. As women and mamas, we often tend to downplay our struggles, put everyone else first, and have quite a bit of negative self-talk when it comes to our own bodies and abilities. We also like to tell ourselves we shouldn't complain because someone else must have it worse, OR we feel alone because everyone else seems to have it all together.

I have thought most of these things myself. "Why can't I get rid of my mom pouch all these years later when so many women bounce right back?" "I shouldn't complain, I have a supportive husband who helps me and my friend is a single mom." "My friend just asked me how my baby is sleeping, so that must mean most people have sleep together by now and I certainly do not so I am failing." No exaggeration.

BUT...

It is possible to give yourself grace and love without downplaying someone else's struggles. It is possible to acknowledge and feel the hard and bad in your life while still appreciating the good and being proud of your accomplishments, big and small. And it is possible to care for and about others while still putting yourself at the top of the priority list.

This Valentine's Day, give yourself a hug, queen. You are on a journey like no one else's, and your ups and downs will be a little bit different, and a little bit the same as other women's. Embrace your own special journey. Love yourself for the good and the bad. Recharge your own batteries first, so you have the energy to go around and charge up everyone else's. And most importantly, fill up your own cup because YOU deserve it.

Happy Valentine's Day!
