Mommy and Me Tummy Time: Movement, Connection, and Community

I recently had the pleasure of co-hosting a wonderful free workshop at the Midlothian Library alongside Dr. Corrie from Beyond Pediatric Therapy. The class was called Mommy and Me Tummy Time, and it was exactly what I love most about this work. Real connection, practical support, and a room full of moms showing up for themselves and their babies.
We welcomed moms and babies of all stages. Some little ones were just 6 weeks old, others were around 6 months, and we even had an 18 month old join us to support her mom’s friend. It was a beautiful reminder that raising babies truly takes a village, and sometimes that village shows up in unexpected and meaningful ways.
During the workshop, we focused on strategies moms can start using right away in their daily lives. We practiced ways to reconnect with the core and pelvic floor, explored positions that support easier breathing and reduce tension, and talked about how small adjustments can lead to greater comfort and protection for the pelvic floor over time. Nothing overwhelming. Just realistic tools that fit into real life.

At the same time, we integrated tummy time for baby. We demonstrated positioning ideas that encourage engagement and development, discussed why tummy time matters, and explored how it can flow naturally alongside a parent’s own stretching and body awareness. It truly becomes a two for one opportunity where both parent and baby benefit. We also talked about co-regulation and how tending to your own nervous system supports your baby’s regulation too. That shared experience is powerful.

Another beautiful piece of the morning was the community that formed in the room. Some moms arrived together, while others met for the first time. Everyone had space to share wins, frustrations, questions, and the messy in-between moments that come with early parenthood. Corrie and I deeply value creating environments where people feel safe being themselves, asking questions, and learning without judgment. That energy filled the entire workshop.
If you missed this session, we would love to see you at the next one.
