“Oh wow!! You’re showing!!” “You are all belly!!!” “You’re so much bigger than the last time I saw you!!”
While these are things that, under normal circumstances would be totally inappropriate, during pregnancy people feel like they have a free pass to say whatever they want. These comments can make us feel so many emotions that are then only heightened by the extra hormones. But what if we really tried to understand what these comments meant instead of letting our own fears seep through.
You’re bringing life into this world, OF COURSE your body is going to change. In fact, it is the most incredible and beautiful thing a person can do. I could be mad that people are noticing changes in me. But what they are actually saying is “Wow this is getting real. There is a baby in there and I cannot wait to meet them!”
Practicing self love and verbalizing positive affirmations daily can make a huge difference in how we see ourselves in the huge life transition. Finding a regular time such as right when you wake up, or on your drive to work just find a few things about yourself that you appreciate. Even if it feels silly, say them outloud. There is nothing we can do about our bodies changing, but we can work on shifting our mindset to being grateful for all of the hard work our body is putting in.
Are you expecting? Check out our incredible all-in-one signature program made by a mom (and pelvic-perinatal-period wellness OT) for moms for more expert guidance on preparing for your baby’s arrival! There are hours of self-paced videos, weekly live video chats (think group coaching meets Q+A meets women supporting women), a 24/7 chat board where you can ask who else is awake at 3am, post a gif or meme, or find support, and a comprehensive toolkit for even more ideas and support. Go here!
If you're not quite sure that this program is the best fit (we just met - I get it!) consider checking out our free recorded workshop first. You'll see what my vibe is like and get some pointers on pelvic floor and core prep, protecting your mental health, and packing a hospital bag from the perspective of a pelvic-perinatal-period OT! Plus, we usually give away discount codes or freebies for those who grab this free recorded workshop:) Here's that link!
